The Technology Commercialization Carolina (TCC) is one of the initiatives at the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise (an Institute under the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School) supporting innovative programs such as:
- The Patent Landscaping, Market and Funding Opportunity Research Service helping innovators assess technology, the marketplace and investment funding for their idea or invention. The service offers custom analytical reports that provide a strategic view of the patent and competitive landscape and opportunities for grants and funding to complete research and launch new products, services, and businesses. This service is free to all UNC faculty, staff, and students. We also offer the service free of charge to North Carolina innovators who meet certain criteria, such as being based out of Tier 1 and Tier 2 county.
- Startup Consulting Program assisting university faculty with the development of a commercialization strategy for moving novel technologies toward the market. The Startup Consulting staff assigns a team of MBA students (although other graduate students interested in tech commercialization are welcome to apply) to serve as consultants to both early-stage startups and faculty members interested in evaluating a startup as a vehicle for commercializing their technology. The Startup Consulting team then provides in-depth research and analysis that leads to recommendations on a strategy for commercialization.
Outside of TCC, the Kenan Institute also supports small businesses and economic development initiatives in Eastern North Carolina and the Sandhills region through our NCGrowth Program. NCGrowth identifies and leverages resources that promote sustainable economic growth and revitalizes economically distressed communities in North Carolina. Specifically, it pairs talented graduate and undergraduate students from universities across North Carolina to assist local governments, nonprofits, and small businesses on outcome-based economic development and entrepreneurship projects.
