Bobbitt’s site and architectural design team was challenged with a complex warehouse layout. The manufacturer needed the addition to be added at the head-end of the process between the plant’s entrance and loading dock area. The solution, involving non-traditional skewed walls and varied column spacing, provides for an efficient use of land and optimal storage configuration.

The existing drives and utility infrastructure created the need for a comprehensive design and construction strategy. The resulting plan minimizes impact to the plant’s ongoing operations, avoiding otherwise expensive relocations and down-time. Due to the critical timing related to the plant’s seasonal stemmery operations, Bobbitt handled the land disturbance permitting before finalizing the building plans to expedite the construction schedule.

The site design also includes a stormwater management strategy that meets the NC Department of Environmental Quality Stormwater Program requirements, while minimizing cost and long-term maintenance. The new addition will provide the desired functional improvements in an economical manner, meeting all the needs of U.S. Flue-Cured Tobacco Growers.

Construction is anticipated to be complete by late spring of 2017.
