Candidates for Governor, Courts, Senate Speaking at NCBA Annual Meeting

CARY & CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- When the North Carolina Bar Association convenes its 118th Annual Meeting on June 23-26, the election season will be in full view at The Westin Charlotte. The featured political event will be the gubernatorial candidates’ forum involving Governor Pat McCrory and Attorney General Roy Cooper on Friday morning, June 24. This forum will begin at approximately 11 a.m. and a capacity crowd of annual meeting attendees and media members is expected.

The Friday morning agenda also includes an Appellate Judicial Candidates’ Forum involving eight candidates for four seats on the N.C. Court of Appeals. This portion of the program will begin at approximately 10:15 a.m.

The candidates for N.C. Court of Appeals are Judge Richard Dietz, incumbent, and District Court Judge Vince Rozier; Judge Bob Hunter, incumbent, and former Superior Court Judge Abe Jones; Judge Linda Stephens, incumbent, and Judge Phil Berger Jr. of the N.C. Office of Administrative Hearings; and Judge Valerie Zachary, incumbent, and District Court Judge Rickye McKoy-Mitchell.

Former N.C. Rep. Deborah Ross has accepted the NCBA’s invitation to major party candidates for the U.S. Senate to speak on Saturday morning, June 25. Her remarks will begin at approximately 11:25 a.m.

Candidates for a seat on the N.C. Supreme Court have also been invited to speak on Saturday morning beginning at approximately 11:10 a.m. Justice Robert Edmunds, who is seeking re-election, and Superior Court Judge Michael R. (Mike) Morgan prevailed in the June 7 primary and will now face off in the November election.
