Alex Tan Joins Integrated Biometrics LLC as Director of Sales for Asia Pacific

As Director of Sales, Tan will manage efforts in the region to coordinate a response to increasing interest in the technology leader’s strong product portfolio as Asian Pacific countries look for extremely accurate, robust mobile biometric solutions to changing needs.

“The adoption of biometric solutions in Asia has been pervasive. Besides wide use in border control and immigration checkpoints, the issuance of National ID cards has also lent itself to additional applications for financial inclusion programs for the less developed countries, as well as better accountability and management of aid programs,” Tan explained.

Asian users are always looking for innovative solutions and have been early adopters of biometrics in many fields, he said. The region’s awareness and acceptance of biometrics is ahead of the U.S. thanks in part to its everyday use by consumers, not only in wider adoption of biometric door locks in homes and offices, but also in home appliances for personalization of coffee machines or drink dispensers.

Tan points to the acceptance of biometrics combining with wide mobile penetration across Asia Pacific as presenting a large opportunity for mobile biometrics payments solutions.

“Fraud has been on the rise and the need for better authentication is ever more necessary. While contactless micro payments have already taken off, financial institutions are looking at biometrics to enable higher value transactions off the mobile platform,” said Tan.

Before joining Integrated Biometrics, Tan served as VP with QLogic Corporation, a manufacturer of networking server and storage networking connectivity and application acceleration solutions, where he led efforts to expand fiber channel technology adoption across the Asia Pacific region. Prior to joining QLogic, Tan served as Senior Director of Strategy and Go-To-Market for Asia Pacific at Oracle, and also held senior leadership positions for Authentec/UPEK where he was instrumental in establishing the company as a key solution provider for the India National ID program.

Tan’s role with Integrated Biometrics enables him to be the chief evangelist for the company throughout the region. He spends a considerable amount of time engaging with customers, partners, and government agencies across the ecosystem, educating them on the technological differences and merits of Integrated Biometrics products and solutions.

The company’s patented light emitting sensor (LES) technology positions itself well in a market that is often faced with rapid commoditization, Tan said. The technology offers enhancements in dry finger performance which has long been the bane of many fingerprint biometric solutions. Being unaffected by ambient light also positions the technology well for many of the mobile terminals that are being deployed in the field for National ID programs.
