Panel Discussing the Internet of Things and Use Cases for Film

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- On November 11 Larry Steffann, General Manager of the Wireless Research Center of NC, is moderating a panel discussion at Iron Clad Brewery on uses for IoT in the film industry. NC's RIoT - the Regional Internet of Things - is a group paving the way for NC to be the Valley of IoT. Its leaders will discuss real use cases for IoT and the technologies driving them - and then offer some thoughts on how one of Wilmington's critical industries can take advantage of IoT.

Larry Steffann brings more than 35 years experience in technology to his role as General Manager of the Wireless Research Center of NC. He has been a serial mentor both as a corporate executive and as the Executive-in-Residence at North Carolina State University since 2008. This combination of executive leadership and hands on mentorship is now applied to economic development - the primary mission of The Wireless Research Center of North Carolina.

With over 30 years in the semiconductor industry, Robert Stennett has held many positions from semiconductor device research to global account management. Current responsibilities at STMicroelectronics include strategic customer engagements in IoT applications as well as advanced silicon technology foundry services in wireless applications. Bob holds a MSc in Physics from Queens University at Kinston.

Josh Robertson guides the strategic growth initiatives and relationship development for Smashing Boxes, a digital product agency and IoT integrator in Durham, NC. A former Naval Officer and veteran of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, he has been on the leadership team of multiple technology startups and consulted as a subject matter expert on projects for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, United States Special Operations Command and the Department of the Navy.

Tom Snyder connects industry interests with university research at the ASSIST Center, headquartered at North Carolina State University. ASSIST is focused on improving societal health through development of nanotechnology-based, self-powered, wearable sensors to enable correlation of environmental and physiological signals for data-driven health management. This role keeps him closely tied to cutting edge research and systems engineering design.

Matthew Davis is a co-founder NC RIoT and the VP of marketing for Reveal Mobile. Reveal Mobile builds software that enables mobile apps to detect Bluetooth beacons anywhere in the world, converting those data signals into meaningful audience data for app developers and publishers. Reveal Mobile is his second mobile startup and the 4th company he’s founded.
