NCACPA Announces 2015 Women to Watch Award Winners

CARY, N.C. -- The North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA), in partnership with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Women to Watch awards. The awards were presented to this year’s winners at NCACPA’s Professional Women’s Conference in Cary, NC on October 22, 2015.

Beth Allen of Charlotte, NC, received the “Emerging Leader” award, which recognizes a woman who has demonstrated characteristics necessary to becoming a leader in the profession. A senior assurance manager at GreerWalker, LLP, in Charlotte, Allen is also involved on the boards of the Children and Family Services Center, Inc., the Hospitality House of Charlotte, the North Carolina Charter Educational Foundation, Mitchell Community College, and Mitchell Community College Endowment for Excellence. Beth was honored by the Charlotte Business Journal in the 2013 Class of 40 Under 40 and the Mecklenburg Times 50 Most Influential Women. Beth has been very involved in local politics and has volunteered for various political campaigns, including serving two terms as President of the Lake Norman Republican Women organization and as a member of the Iredell County Republican Party’s County Executive Board.

Vickie Martin of Hickory, NC, received the “Experienced Leader” award, which recognizes a woman who has made notable contributions to the accounting profession, her organizations, and to the development of women as leaders. Managing partner of Martin Starnes & Associates, CPAs, PA, Martin founded the firm in 1987 with just one other employee, and has grown the firm to over 60 employees across three locations. Having previously served on the NCACPA Board of Directors and an active member of the Catawba Valley Chapter, Martin also served as a member of the AICPA PCPS Executive Committee, the first female president of the Alexander Chamber, and previously served the Catawba Valley Chamber of Commerce in various roles. Martin also serves on the Lenoir-Rhyne University Business Council and Board of Visitors, and also is a board member of Catawba County’s United Arts Council, Children’s Advocacy and Protection Center, and Catawba Valley Community Foundation, having served as the Chairperson for most of these board.
