Family Food Drive in Durham October 10

DURHAM, N.C. -- Housing for New Hope is moving people home every day and they need the local community to help fill their pantries and to give them the household items they need to turn the new house into a home. The organization is holding a Family Food and Household Supply Drive on October 10 from 3-5 p.m. at the Durham Farmers Market. Family Food Drive is a Harvest Festival, complete with bouncy castle, popcorn, snow cones, face-painting, and carnival games and is completely free to attend. Attendees are encouraged to bring families, friends, folding chairs, and six cans from their cupboards or a bottle of laundry detergent. Food Lion is an event sponsor with 1,500 pounds of food donated. Food Lion will be distributing free stuffed lions to those in attendance.

Housing for New Hope hopes to "Fill the Truck" full of non-perishable food & household supplies for the homeless moving home. all of the food and supplies collected by Family Food Drive goes to the families and individuals that Housing for New Hope moves out of homeless shelters and into new homes. Suggested donations include pull-top cans, tuna, peanut butter, laundry detergent, towels, cutlery (spoons, forks, etc.), and pillows. Anything you need for your home, our families need for theirs.

Celebrating its 23rd year, Housing for New Hope works to prevent and end homelessness in the Triangle. To accomplish our mission, we have developed an innovative, highly collaborative model that provides increased access to housing, healthcare, and integrated services to more than 1,000 households a year. Since 1992, we have built more than 70 units of housing options and have become known for our innovative array of support services provided by 25 staff dedicated to "Preventing and Ending Homelessness One Valuable Person at a Time."  Annually, Housing for New Hope serves approximately 2,300 clients.
