NC DataPalooza Announces Details for Third Annual Demo Day

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC DataPalooza, an open data startup competition that seeks to catalyze positive economic and community impact, will host its third annual Demo Day on Monday, September 21 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Red Hat Annex in downtown Raleigh. The event culminates a 90-day competition in which 15 teams have developed early-stage startups incorporating open data from local, state, and federal sources.

Over the course of the summer, these teams have worked alongside business mentors, including former Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network Executive Director, Bob Creeden, and four coaches from the Council for Entrepreneurial Development Venture Mentoring service. Team concepts must solve a problem related to the 2015 Code for America Challenge areas - health, public safety and justice, and economic development.

In September, the top three teams (selected during a private pitch session August 13th) will present their concepts to a panel of expert judges for a chance at a $5,000 prize and membership to local co-working space, HQ Raleigh. Additionally, the presenting sponsor, ESRI, will provide $500 to the team with the best use of their ArcGIS technology.

The event also features a talk from local entrepreneur and founder of, Rob Burns, as well as a keynote address from Red Hat’s Chief Information Officer, Lee Congdon.

The full program can be viewed at Early bird tickets are $25 and are available until August 28th, at which time prices increase to $35. Tickets include light hors d’oeuvres and local beverages.
