Triangle Happy Fix Meetup Examines Procrastination, Overcoming Obstacles to Happiness

CARY, N.C. -- The June meeting of the Triangle Happy Fix Meetup Group, dedicated to sharing resources and information on living positively, examined how understanding different personality types and how they lead to procrastination can help individuals overcome obstacles to happiness. The engaging June 15 Meetup at Cary’s Café Carolina was led by licensed counselor and certified life coach Barbara Creeden, MA, LPCA, founder of Raleigh-based CenterPoint Counseling for Women, LLC.

“Barbara had a fantastic approach to attendees doing a self-discovery exercise which was fun and definitely eye-opening,” Stacy Menzies, event organizer, said.

Creeden distributed a short survey titled “How Do You Procrastinate?” which attendees filled-out and scored, matching their scores to a handout with six styles of procrastination: perfectionist, dreamer, worrier, defier, crisis-maker and over-doer. Group members then received information sheets on their specific style of procrastinator, with details on what each type is noted for and steps for how to stop being a procrastinator through self-assessment, changing how you think, speak and act.

A lively discussion of how procrastination affects happiness on a daily basis followed, with attendees able to talk one-on-one with Creeden about their individual situations.

"To have more happiness, we need less of something else, like worry about all the things on our to-do list that we’ve routinely been putting off.  Understanding our procrastination style and having some specific tools to address it helps us open up space for more happiness in our lives," Creeden explained.

Focusing exclusively on women from the teen years through adulthood, Barbara Creeden’s mission is to partner with clients to help them be authentic, find balance and live mindfully. She specializes in personal growth, professional development, relationship issues, and life and career transitions. For more information visit CenterPointCounselingforWomen.com.
