BSN medical Celebrates 20th Anniversary of BSN-JOBST Research Grant

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- BSN medical, a leading global medical device manufacturer, is celebrating two decades of its prestigious BSN-JOBST Research Grant in Venous and Lymphatic Diseases. The 2015 Grant recipient is Andrew S. Kimball, M.D., resident surgeon at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers, in Ann Arbor, Mich. Dr. Kimball will investigate the mechanisms of venous thrombus resolution under the guidance and mentorship of Peter Henke, M.D., past president of the American Venous Forum (AVF).

The BSN-JOBST Research Grant, which was presented to Dr. Kimball at the AVF 27th Annual Meeting in Palm Springs, Calif., has increased from a $50,000 annual grant to $100,000. BSN medical's contribution this year brings the company's total donations to just over $1 Million.

"The AVF Foundation is extremely grateful for the generosity of BSN medical and the BSN-JOBST Research Grant of $100,000, which enables critical, new research that might otherwise never be performed," said Peter Pappas, M.D., president of the American Venous Forum Foundation (AVFF). "This year we received a record number of proposals from promising young investigators. As the very first recipient of the BSN-JOBST Research Grant, I am gratified to have witnessed numerous investigators who, over the past 19 years, have benefited from this opportunity and performed important research, further advancing the understanding and treatment of vein disease throughout the United States."

In 1995, BSN medical, in association with the AVF, initiated the BSN-JOBST Research Grant to further Conrad Jobst's legacy of innovation. The Fellowship, which has helped to jump-start the careers of young investigators, is designed to provide a foundation of research to build on future work and grants for mentored and independent research. Recipients are asked to submit a one-year update and present a progress report to the AVF membership at its Annual Meeting.

"At BSN medical, we are proud to be an industry leader in support of Conrad Jobst's vision and his commitment to improving health outcomes for people suffering from venous insufficiency or lymphatic disease," said Roberto Muñoz, president of North America for BSN medical. "The 20th anniversary marks a major milestone in the area of vein disease research. The data collected by grant recipients over the past two decades has contributed significantly to new therapy solutions and clinical advances that support various disease states and improve quality of life."

The selection for the recipient of the BSN-JOBST Research Grant is performed through a competitive peer review process. The competition is open to residents, fellows in a vascular training program, as well as physicians who have completed their training within the past five years.
