Fred Barringer named Regional Director of the SBTDC at UNC Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The SBTDC is pleased to announce Fred Barringer as the Regional Director of the SBTDC at UNC Chapel Hill. Fred rejoins the SBTDC after a two-year stint in the private sector, which broadened his already extensive background in business, industry, and the military. From 2010 to 2012, he served in the SBTDC at Western Carolina University’s Cullowhee office as a business counselor focusing on manufacturing and distribution clients.

For the last two years, Fred was Channel Manager for distribution products at Lucas Milhaupt, a brazing alloy manufacturer in Milwaukee, WI. He has also held several senior management roles during a 16-year tenure with Taracorp Imaco Inc., a solder wire manufacturer in Winston-Salem. Under his leadership, the company increased sales by 600% and more than doubled employment. He also has small business experience having owned and operated a $3 million commercial laundry and linen company.

Commissioned into the Navy through the NROTC program at UNC Chapel Hill, Fred served eight years on active duty and 14 years on reserve duty. He retired from the Navy as a Captain in 1996.
