Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce Kicks Off Small Biz Week with a Bang

CORNELIUS, N.C. -- In honor of National Small Business Week May 12-16, 2014, the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce hosted its Second Annual Business Luncheon / Workshop for area business leaders and owners at the Peninsula Club in Cornelius on May 12.

“We had a better than expected turnout for this event,” says Joe Vagnone of Carolina Business Associates who planned and facilitated the event. “We had 160 guests pre-registered, but many more showed up at the door to hear from eight high profile business and community leaders who are shaping Lake Norman, including two Mayors and a Senator.”  The event was sponsored by “Local Biz Now,” a weekly business radio show on WSIC 1400 AM radio.

Mayor Atkins of Mooresville and Mayor Woods of Davidson talked about economic development, promoting the LKN towns as one region that works together to attract new businesses.  Senator Tarte discussed his previous experiences as a business owner before politics.  Motivational speaker and author, Dave Ferguson got the audience pumped up as he presented “Are you a Boss or a Leader?”  Barry Rigby, Executive Vice President, Development & Principal of R. L. West discussed his on-going $3 billion dollar residential / commercial project, LangTree at the Lake.  Global Entrepreneur and Cornelius resident, Art Sabates shared motivational tips and the importance of customer service and repeat business.  Other distinguished guest speakers included Christopher Hailey, Public Safety Strategist, Consultant and 2014 Candidate for Sheriff of Mecklenburg County, and Brad Roche of McLean Mortgage Corporation.

The workshop concluded with a panel discussion Q & A.  “The feedback was tremendous,” says Vagnone.  “We’ve already begun planning next year’s Small Business Workshop.”  For more information about the workshop’s content, please contact Joe Vagnone at 704-895-4275 or email
