CenterEdge Software Addressing Amusements Industry Issues at IAAPA Attractions Expo 2013

ROXBORO, N.C. -- The leadership team from entertainment facility solutions provider CenterEdge Software ( will be sharing best practices on industry challenges and trends at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Attractions Expo 2013 in Orlando, Florida November 18-22. Important issues related to online indirect competition, waivers, and labor costs will be a major focus of attendees and exhibitors at the combination tradeshow and conference. “With new changes from Obamacare on the horizon, operators are concerned about the effects on their workforce with regard to the relationship between labor costs and revenue,” CenterEdge Software director of operations Marcus Mayer said.

Careful tracking and monitoring are keys for facility managers ensuring that their business operations are lean and efficient in the face of HR changes, Mayer explained. In addition to labor concerns, Mayer said increases in the time adults and children are spending online and using home-based entertainment are challenging family entertainment centers (FECs) to spend more time, money, and energy than before on innovating and evolving their business. This can take the form of adding attractions or embracing the allure of the internet as a means of marketing to core audiences, he said.

According to Mayer, many of his company’s clients in a variety of industries including laser tag and roller skating are raising concerns about potential injuries and ways to mitigate liability through waivers, another major industry focus over the past year.

“Injuries were traditionally a hallmark concern of only the riskiest forms of entertainment like skydiving and scuba diving, but the increasing popularity of FEC-hybrids like trampoline parks is helping to usher new developments in liability waivers into the more mainstream entertainment industries,” Mayer said.

Additional issues CenterEdge Software will be addressing at the event include line speed, employee theft, FEC marketing, dealing with limited capital for adding attractions or building new facilities, and online issues like ticketing and sales.

This year’s IAAPA Attractions Expo 2013 will feature more square footage of new product and service innovations for the global attractions industry than any of the organization’s Expos in the past 10 years. As of Oct. 31, 1,100 companies have signed up to showcase new ride concepts and amusements technologies in 135 product categories on more than 522,000 square feet of exhibit space, the size of approximately 13 football fields.
